İzmir Stock Exchange

The parcel belonged to Izmir Governor Ahmet Hamdi Paşa, and a wide, low-rise building was located on it. By the late 19th century, the building had been renovated and expanded to add another floor. Izmir’s first acknowledged stock exchange, “Nişli Hacı Ali Stock Exchange”, opened in this building. During the occupation, the building operated as the Greek National Bank and survived the 1922 fire without damage. It was run as the “Akkasoğlu Inn” for a while, then was assigned as a post office. In 1996, the building underwent extensive renovations. Today, the building houses the Izmir Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism.
